Short answer

Plowing a standard one- or two-car driveway in Janesville runs $40 to $75 a push, and a long rural drive of 300 feet or more runs $60 to $120, by a local contractor's published 2026-27 prices. The snow has to stay on your property: Janesville ordinance 34-343 bans pushing it into the street.

What a plow visit covers

A truck with a straight or V blade clears the driveway from the garage door to the street, opens the apron the city plow leaves behind, and stacks the snow on your lawn or along the side of the drive. On a standard two-car driveway that is a few passes and some back-dragging at the garage. Walks, steps and the public sidewalk are usually a separate line on the price, cleared by hand or with a snow blower (see sidewalk snow removal).

Snow stakes help. The orange-tipped fiberglass markers along each edge show the operator where the pavement ends, so the blade stays off your lawn, your landscaping and the curb. Put them in before the ground freezes.

What it costs in Rock County

A Janesville contractor that publishes its prices lists $40 to $75 per event for a single standard driveway in Janesville, Beloit, Milton or Edgerton, and $60 to $120 for rural acreage drives with longer routes (its 2026-27 residential page). Statewide guides land in the same place: $30 to $75 a visit for a typical driveway (Wisconsin Homeowners Guide, 2026). Every range, plus seasonal contracts and commercial lots, is on the snow removal cost page.

Where the snow goes, and where it cannot

Janesville ordinance 34-343 prohibits depositing snow from a sidewalk, driveway or driveway approach onto a city street or alley. The city says the violation it sees most is a driveway or parking lot plowed straight across the street and piled on the far side (City of Janesville winter reminders). Edgerton has the same ban in its own code (Edgerton chapter 345), and Rock County points to state statute 346.94(5) for its roads (Rock County policy). A plow that piles your snow on the street is putting the ticket and the liability on you. More in can you push snow into the street in Wisconsin.

Timing around the city plows

Janesville's crews aim to plow every street within 10 to 12 hours after the snow stops once 2 to 3 inches have fallen (city snow and ice control page). That is why a driveway plowed at 4 a.m. often needs the end cleared again after the city plow comes through. Ask whether the price includes a return trip for the windrow at the bottom of the drive.

During a declared winter weather emergency every car has to be off city streets, with a $50 ticket and a tow for any left behind (Janesville Gazette). A cleared driveway is where the car goes, so on those nights the order matters: driveway first. See Janesville winter weather emergency parking.

Per push or the whole season

Paying per push means you pay only when it snows. A seasonal contract means one price for the winter, usually November or December through March. Janesville averages 12.7 days a year with an inch or more of snow (NOAA normals), so the choice comes down to how often your contract triggers a visit. The math is on seasonal snow contracts.

Common questions

Driveway Snow Plowing: questions

How much does it cost to plow a driveway in Janesville?

A local contractor's published 2026-27 range is $40 to $75 per push for a standard single driveway, and $60 to $120 for rural drives of 300 feet or more. Every range is on the cost page.

Can a plow push my driveway snow across the street?

Not in Janesville. Ordinance 34-343 bans putting snow from a driveway, sidewalk or driveway approach onto a city street or alley, and Edgerton's code has the same ban.

Will the city plow fill in the end of my driveway?

Often, yes. City crews plow the street after you are cleared, and the windrow lands at the bottom of the drive. Ask whether a plow price includes coming back for it.

Do I need snow stakes?

Stakes along each edge show the operator where the pavement ends, which keeps the blade off the lawn, landscaping and curb. Put them in before the ground freezes.
